Editor's Note: We first reviewed the Tramontina Professional Restaurant Fry Pan in 2019. We've tested and retested many pans since then and still stand by our recommendaiton of this one. Providing reliable performance at an affordable price, the Tramontina Professional Restaurant Fry Pan remains a top choice for nonstick pans.
We purchased the Tramontina Professional Restaurant Fry Pan so our reviewer could put it to the test in his kitchen. Keep reading for our full product review.
Tramontina is a 100-year-old cookware and cutlery brand geared toward professionals and serious home cooks. In the company’s own words, they sell “timeless products crafted especially for the cooking enthusiast.” To see if their products live up to the hype (and if the high-end features are worth the high price tag), we tested the 12-inch Tramontina Professional Restaurant Fry Pan. We put the nonstick pan through its paces, cooking breakfasts, lunches, and dinners over the course of several weeks and evaluating factors such as durability, performance, and ease of cleaning and use.
Design: All business with a clean aesthetic
The pan looks as professional as it feels, but while simple, the design isn’t all nuts and bolts. The removable red silicone grip softens the feel of the stiff handle, adds a nice pop of color, and eliminates the need for a pot holder. Other than the grip and a subtle stamping on the bottom, the pan is free of branding and looks clean, and the satiny nonstick coating still sparkles even after we used the pan repeatedly.
We were easily able to maneuver the long handle and heavy body, but it could be more challenging for seniors or anyone with hand or wrist issues. However, there are smaller versions of the same pan if you don’t need the space and weight of the 12-inch model.
Material and Construction: Heavy-duty
As soon as we picked up this pan, we realized that it’s thicker and heavier than most of the nonstick pans we’ve used. In fact, this single pan weighs as much as the three pans in the T-fal Nonstick Cookware Set combined.
We were easily able to maneuver the long handle and heavy body, but it could be more challenging for seniors or anyone with hand or wrist issues.
The Tramontina Professional Restaurant Fry Pan is made from heavy-gauge aluminum, and it’s designed to heat evenly and stay stable on your cooktop. The extra-long handle is a solid piece of stainless steel triple-riveted to the pan body, and while it’s handy for leverage on the cooktop or taking the pan out of the oven, we found its length (8 inches) to be a bit unnecessary and unwieldy for everyday use. (We even read one anecdote where a user had her husband cut the handle down!)
The pan’s smooth bottom allowed us to easily slide it across the burners, but we found minor scratches on the pan bottom, even after just one use.
Heating Capacity: Even, but don’t go too high
The heavy-duty build of this frying pan heats as evenly as advertised, and the all-metal construction is oven-safe. However, the manufacturer’s limit of 400 degrees means this isn’t as heat-tolerant as some other frying pans, despite its professional pedigree.
Nonstick Performance: Not clingy in the least
We found that cooking eggs—the litmus test of nonstick pans—was effortless in this 12-inch pan, even though single eggs looked comically small in such a large pan. The nonstick coating made making omelets a breeze and over-easy eggs, well, easy. Meats such as sausages and bacon caused no issues, either, and the large size of the pan allowed us to cook veggies in bulk. Plus, adding thick sauces—which can stick and burn—was easy, even on medium-high heat.
Cleaning: No scrubbing required
Like with any good nonstick pan, all you need is warm soapy water and a soft rag to clean it. Unlike some types of cookware, this frying pan is also dishwasher-safe. While this product is designed to withstand the rigors of a professional kitchen, it’s still a good idea to avoid abrasive detergents and scrubbers, which could compromise the nonstick finish.

Price: Worth the investment
The 12-inch pan packs a price tag of around $50, but it can usually be found on sale. The 8-inch, 10-inch, and 14-inch versions ring up at $35, $45, and $75, respectively. A slight investment at full price, sure, but this pan delivers performance and durability in a professional-grade design—making the cost easier for passionate home cooks to justify. Plus, under the lifetime warranty, the manufacturer will repair or replace defective items at no cost. (Be mindful: scratches and other standard wear-and-tear are not considered defects.)
Tramontina Professional Restaurant Fry Pan vs. T-fal Specialty Nonstick 3-Piece Fry Pan Set
At about $30 for a three-piece set, the T-fal Specialty Nonstick Pans give you a lot for a little. They’re also lighter in weight, which makes them more manageable for some cooks but also a bit unsteady on cooktops. So if budget is a concern—or if you’re looking for a beginner nonstick set—T-fal is a solid bet. But if durability and longevity matter most, spring for the Tramontina.
Yes, buy it.
If you’re a serious home cook with strong wrists, the Tramontina Professional Restaurant Fry Pan could be the only nonstick you need.
